Stewarding the Man United Brand – Ellie Norman

  • February 14, 2024February 14, 2024
  • by Claire

We are back!! Yes, we know, we’ve had a long and awesome holiday :-)!  We hope your year has got off to a great start too.

We have a blockbuster episode to leap into 2024 and it’s all about someone who stewards equally blockbusting brands.

Ellie Norman runs marketing, communications and fan engagement at one of the world’s biggest sporting brands, the famed football club, Manchester United. Our minds were officially blown when Ellie told us she has to market to 1.1 billion fans around the world. That’s an incredible audience for any marketer.

It’s not just the iconic Man United sporting brand that Ellie has experience with; she’s also been Global Director for Marketing and Communications at Formula One where she helped popularise the franchise.

In fact, Ellie’s career has featured a lot of male-dominated industries and sectors as she also spent six years in marketing roles with Honda Motors in Europe. Her take on how to thrive and succeed in these environments is uplifting.

We were struck by Ellie’s refreshing and inspiring way of thinking about her work on the global stage and, as you’ll hear, she shares: . . .

  • How not going to University has driven her career choices in a good way
  • How Ellie makes big decisions about her career
  • Why sports marketing flips the traditional marketing model on its head
  • How she helped popularise the Formula 1 brand and make it less elitist
  • And how she handles the Man United brand and its legion of distraught fans when the team isn’t performing on the field.

We think you’ll love this inspiring conversation with the positive and gutsy Ellie Norman.

Future Proof Me Mini Episode

Future Proof Me – Citizen Branding

  • July 27, 2021
  • by Claire

This week’s mini episode features a global branding and design icon talking about the renewed power branding has in today’s ‘social’ world to create change-making movements.

When we invited the designer, author and podcaster, Debbie Millman, on the show last year she talked about how branding has evolved in the past decade and how the power has shifted to us as consumers and citizens. She explained it in a historical context that really stuck with us and we thought it was so important, we wanted to share it with you again.

Debbie is a global authority on brands, as well as creating them, she co-created and teaches a Masters in Branding at New York’s famed School of Visual Arts.

Understanding how branding, as well as content, has been democratised and how it can be harnessed for good and even turned into social movements is important; not just for future proofing our careers but also for future proofing our planet as well.

On that note, sit back, pretend you’re in NYC and drink in Debbie’s wise words now!

Future Proof Me Mini Episode

Future Proof Me – The Value of Dreaming Big

  • February 9, 2021February 9, 2021
  • by Claire

This week’s mini ‘Future Proof Me’ episode is all about the power of dreaming big. One person who’s a passionate believer in the power of the dreams we make for ourselves is stationery and Swedish design entrepreneur, Kristina Karlsson – the founder of kikki.K.

We had Kristina on the show around the time her business went into voluntary administration last year. It was a perfect storm and COVID was the last straw.

However, the great news is that in August last year they found an investor and the brand and business lives on, still with Kristina and her husband Paul continuing to run the business.

Kristina makes a big distinction between goal setting and dreaming. Goal setting is a rational process where you take reality into account, while dreaming, she says, is where you let go of reality and really think about what you would most love to happen – to create your dream life.

We also love how Kristina stresses you don’t have to be special to achieve great things….

Win One of Kristina’s ‘Your Dream Life’ books

We’re thrilled to say we have three copies of Kristina’s book ‘Your Dream Life Starts Here’ to give away to listeners keen to follow the seven steps Kristina mentions in this mini episode.

Simply email us at hello@dontstopusnow.co and tell us in less than 50 words why it’s important to you to be able to think and dream bigger.

Entries close COB Wednesday, 24 February 2021. Winners will be notified by email.
