Brianne West – Running the World’s most Sustainable Cosmetics…

  • July 28, 2020
  • by Claire

Our guest on the podcast this week is Brianne West, the New Zealander serial entrepreneur and founder of global sustainable cosmetics company, Ethique.

Brianne has a bold and pioneering mission, to rid the world of single-use plastics. She started Ethique to replace all those bottled products we use in our bathrooms, from shampoos to moisturisers, with solid bars of concentrated product.

We’ve been so impressed with the degree of sustainability and ethical practices that Brianne has baked into her business, from sourcing her products directly from around the globe, to being a B Corp, to donating 20% of profits to charitable causes. It really is a business that walks the talk.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • How Brianne displayed the entrepreneurial gene very early
  • How she’s funded Ethique with two very successful crowdfunding campaigns, as well as what it takes to crowdfund successfully
  • What Brianne does to manage her anxiety; and
  • How Huffington Post and Britney Spears changed everything for her business overnight!

We hope you come away as inspired by this conversation as we were. It’s a real demonstration of what’s possible when a business decides to make a reasonable profit whilst also caring for planet and people.

Finally, a quick request from us, if you enjoy our podcast and have yet to rate or review us on your listening platform of choice, we’d so appreciate it if you would. This is a passion project for us and it would really make a positive difference.

Future Proof Me Mini Episode

Future Proof Me – How to Ponder the Future…

  • April 29, 2020April 29, 2020
  • by Claire

Welcome to our first Future Proof Me mini episode!

These episodes, will share a ‘nugget’ of an idea, advice or a thought-provoking insight to help us all thrive and adapt in future.

Our environment’s changing so fast right now, this seems more important than ever …

In these mini episodes we’ll feature the best from previous and future guests including brand new content. Plus, we’ll share ideas and great tools to try that we’ve put into action or experimented with ourselves.

This week’s ‘nugget’ comes from investment banker Lindley Edwards who we had on the show about a year ago. Her episode was very popular and you could really tell from that, that Lindley is a deep thinker.

Lindley runs a corporate advisory business called AFG Venture Group which specialises in cross-border investments and transactions, particularly between Asia & Australia. She’s also Chairperson for two startups and a Non-Executive Director of a Think Tank called AsiaLink.

We love these insights from Lindley because:

1) They seem so relevant now in these strange times of coronavirus and;

2) Lindley shares some really helpful ways to think about the future… and that’s by building on the ideas and insights from the past;

3) Plus, she talks about how to move forward and create change in new ways that will get traction and maybe even disrupt an industry.

If you’re keen to hear more from Lindley, hear our full interview here.

We hope you enjoy this first Future Proof Me episode…

Jordy Fu – Child Prodigy Artist to Sought After…

  • October 8, 2019
  • by admin

This episode features a super creative thinker and former child prodigy who’s on a quest to bring beauty and emotion to all that she creates and builds. We’re talking about renown architect, interior designer, fashion designer and artist, Jordy Fu.

Jordy grew up in Chengdu in China. At the age of just six years old, 200 pieces of Jordy’s art work were exhibited in a solo exhibition at the Beijing Capital Museum. By the time she was seven a book of her artworks had been published!

Jordy went on to study in London at the iconic art school, Central Saint Martins, before qualifying as an architect and eventually starting her own multi-disciplinary firm.

Now based in Bangkok, Jordy and her team work on a diverse range of projects… and Jordy in particular works on everything from iconic buildings in China to statement fashion pieces for the runways in Dubai.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • Why she believes most architects are boring
  • Why being a child prodigy can make you feel like a failure when you’re an adult
  • How she manages to juggle multiple projects and be a parent; and
  • How she’s trained herself to have a positive attitude, and how you can too ….

If you aspire to be more creative or have a more positive mindset, then don’t miss this episode!

Jordy as a six year old at Beijing Capital Musuem; artwork she drew as a five year old; Jordy’s fashion collection at Dubai Fashion Week; putting the final touches on her paper chandelier; Jordy in her egg chair in her office; Greta Thomas, Jordy Fu and Claire Hatton in her Bangkok office; one of Jordy’s architectural designs.

How To Episode

How to Manage Your Inner Critic

  • June 6, 2018July 31, 2018
  • by admin

Do your thoughts serve you or hold you back?

Welcome to this first ‘How to’ episode here at Don’t Stop Us Now!

This is where we choose a common theme and career challenge raised in previous episodes (or from your requests) and share the best ways to help you tackle this challenge and be your most awesome, unstoppable self!

In this episode you’ll hear Claire and Greta examine that pesky voice we all have inside our heads – the dreaded inner critic. We call it the Evil DJ.

If you listened to Audette Exel’s recent episode you may remember her epic quote about her inner critic:

“Now I know, I’ve identified the voice, so I’d say to it, “Oh hello voice of 2000 years of oppression, I am not going to listen to you.” I can never shut it up, it’s on my shoulder, as it is on all our shoulders.”.

Audette’s learnt a key lesson – No matter how compelling our thoughts may be, our thoughts are not necessarily facts.

Tune in now to hear:

  • theories on why we have an inner critic
  • what can happen if you let your Evil DJ dominate your thoughts,
  • and importantly, learn a simple, science-based tool to help you manage your inner critic and improve your mindset.

Enjoy this episode!
